Philippines stands up to China on South China Sea

China lays claim to parts of the South China Sea, overlapping areas claimed by the Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan, Brunei and Malaysia. They are thought to be significant oil and gas reserves below parts of the dispute Sea. In recent years, tensions over the issue have increased. And China has become more assertive over it’s claims. The Philippines has tried to get ASEAN to back its claims but it failed to get the support of all the members. So it is now turning to their powerful ally the United States for help. For Asia Calling TV, Jofelle Tesorio and Ariel Carlos traveled to Palawan where regular US and Philippine military exercises are being held.
