US and Filipino troops practice beach raid

More than two-hundred Marines from the US and the Philippines staged a joint, simulated amphibious raid on a beach in the South China Sea, a resource-rich but tense region. The drill was part of the “Balikatan” or “shoulder-to-shoulder” defence exercises which involved thousands of troops and dozens of military assets, including a squadron of fighter jets and aims to promote peace and regional security.
