My thoughts

In those chaotic situations everyone is a big fat target who is behind the walls of a nice home when compared to a squatter shack. One or two security guards at the gate of any subdivision could not hold back a crowd of hungry people, even if they wanted to. I would not want a house on the waterfront anywhere. Our home here in Danao is on higher ground but not in the mountain area. The recent disaster here in the Visayas Islands where desperate people where looting homes for food is very shocking to me and something not catered for when choosing your place to build a home. Being a foreigner and supposedly rich we could be a fat target if a similar thing happened near to us.  Guards would be at their own homes and families – so they would be not much good at protecting us… makes you think a bit doesn’t it?

Manila: Amid widespread criticism, the government of Philippines has defended its response to Typhoon Haiyan – the strongest ever recorded on land. The government said it was faced with biggest ever logistical challenge following widespread damage caused by Typhoon Haiyan, which has affected nearly 11 million people.  Cabinet Secretary Rene Almendras said the government has responded to the natural disaster “quite well.”

TACLOBAN, Philippines (AP) — Workers in this typhoon-shattered city buried scores of unidentified bodies in a hillside mass burial Thursday as desperately needed aid began to reach some of the half-million people displaced by the disaster. Dozens more bodies were lined up in bags outside Tacloban City Hall waiting to be taken to burial sites. Six days after Typhoon Haiyan struck the central Philippines, many of the dead were still lying along roads as survivors searched for bodies buried under the rubble.

Philippine soldiers on trucks distributed rice and water as chainsaw-wielding teams cut debris from blocked roads. Thousands more swarmed the city’s damaged airport, desperate to leave or to get treatment at a makeshift medical center. The USS George Washington aircraft carrier arrived in the Philippine Sea near the Gulf of Leyte on Thursday, and will set up a position off the Coast of Samar Island to assess the damage and provide medical and water supplies, the 7th Fleet said in a statement. http://news.yahoo.com/typhoon-struck-philippine-city-begins-mass-burial-044249335.html
